In May 2023, the population of Emilia Romagna was hit by a series of extreme atmospheric phenomena, which created persistent rains, floods, overflows and landslides in the region.

The flood involved 44 municipalities and the heavy rains caused 23 streams to overflow. The recovery and safety operations of the affected areas started immediately.
